Christa
Erickson is an interdisciplinary artist and writer who investigates
the politics, pleasures, and pains of spaces mediated by electronic
technologies. She weaves together combinations of video, tactile
materials, programming, physical interface devices, performance,
and the Internet in installations. She also makes work specifically
for the web. She is currently developing a genetic body-memory
installation titled Dis-ease. She is also working on the interactive
video installation REplay. Christa’s individual and
collaborative works have been exhibited widely, including
galleries and museums in the U.S. and Canada (including PPOW,
Walker Art Center, Institute for Studies in the Arts/ASU,
SVA Visual Arts Museum, California Museum of Photography,
Banff Center for the Arts, bi-national INSITE) and at international
media arts festivals (CYNETart, Maid in Cyberspace, FILE,
Medi@terra, LAFreewaves, SXSW, Ciber@rt). Her work has been
cited in many publications including Leonardo, Village Voice,
Wired, Parachute, San Diego Union Tribune, Arizona Republic,
and "Coolsite of the Day." At Stony Brook she is
Assistant Professor of Art and teaches electronic media. She
is Director of the Digital Arts Studios and Co-Director of
the collaborative Laboratory for Technology Arts (Art, Music,
and Theatre Arts). She studied sculpture and computer science
at UT, Austin and multi-media installation at UC, San Diego.
She also taught at UC, San Diego and at Indiana University,
where she founded their Digital Media program.
